MUGHAL: Shah Alam II, 1759-1806, AR rupee (11.22g), Ahmadabad (Ghausgarh), AH1201 year 28, KM-482, superb strike, with full mint & date, EF to About Unc, R, ex Paul Stevens Collection. This is not the common Ahmadshah in Gujarat, but a locale in Uttar Pradesh, tentatively identified as the fortress of Ghausgarh near Muzaffarnagar, later the base of the brief usurper, Bedar Bakht. This was a two-year type (AH1201-1202), probably struck by the supporters of Shah Alam II and the British in anticipation of the rebellion of Bedar Bakht.
