APULIA. Arpi. Ca. 325-275 BC. AR didrachm or stater (22mm, 6.79 gm, 9h). NGC XF 4/5 - 2/5, brushed. Dazos, magistrate(?). Wreathed head of Demeter left, oinochoe (wine pitcher) behind / Free horse prancing left, eight-pointed star above, ΔΑZΟΥ below. HN Italy 633. Very rare and superior to most specimens extant! Surfaces lightly brushed, otherwise struck in sound metal on a broad flan.

This rare issue of Arpi served as inspiration for an early series of Roman silver didrachms struck in the 270s BC with a virtually identical design (Crawford 15).
