SICILY. Syracuse. Ca. 420-415 BC. AR tetradrachm (25mm, 17.19 gm, 8h). NGC XF 3/5 - 2/5, brushed. Charioteer driving trotting quadriga right, Nike flying left above, crowning charioteer / ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙ-ΟΝ, head of Arethusa right, hair in sakkos decorated with meander pattern in band; four dolphins around. Boehringer Series XXIII, 709 (V347/R485). HGC 2, 1322. Edge splits, otherwise a pleasing example of a rare head type.
