Annam
Tu Duc gold 3 Tien ND (1848-83) AU58 NGC, KM529, Fr-46, Sch-379b. Obv. Four character inscription (Tu Duc Thong Bao). Rev. Inscription (Long Van) with facing dragon over rayed sun. A superb example of this extremely rare issue. The strike is quite bold for this crudely produced type, with only light marks consistent with the grade. One of the very rare gold isues after the French split the country into 3 parts: The South became Cochin China, the North Tonkin, and the central Annam. This type is exceedingly rare and we can find only one example offered, and that piece, sold by St. James' Auctions in 2016, was a tooled piece with an edge mount removed.
