Napoleon Franc L'An 12-A (1803/4) MS66 NGC, Paris mint, KM656.1. A wondrous example of this first Franc featuring Napoleon as emperor. The surfaces are magnificently argent, with a light golden tone around the devices. With exceptional eye-appeal, this piece is sure to attract a great deal of attention. A few adjustment marks on the obverse are noted for completeness. A previous example of this type, a PCGS MS66, and one which this cataloger feels is inferior to the present specimen, brought a hammer of $2,500 in our 2016 New York Signature Sale (auction 3044, lot 29380). This is currently the only other piece from either service graded at that level, with none finer.
