George III copper Proof Pattern 5 Shilling-6 Pence 1811 PR63 Brown NGC, ESC-206, plain edge. By I. Philip. Made for the Bank of England during the Napoleonic Wars. This is one of a variety of suggested denominations that were all abandoned after the war's conclusion, when the normal Crown was made again for George III in 1818. This piece has medal die-alignment. The strike is excellent, with minor spotting, but with surfaces essentially free of handling marks. Both sides feature iridescent surfaces with reddish-brown toning and golden highlights.
