London Summer Olympics silver Participation Medal 1908 UNC, Struck by P.Vaughton & Sons, Birmingham. 50.5mm/60.28g. By Edgar Bertram MacKennal. Obv: Victorious athlete holding palm frond, being driven in a quadriga. Rev: Winged figure of Victory standing on globe between eleven-line legend. Matte textured and struck in high relief, with light tone on both sides and deeper tone on the edges. An incredibly artistic medal, scarce in any format, but especially desirable in silver. An wonderful relic of the early modern Olympics.
