Republic white-metal Pattern "Napoleon III Mule" 10 Reales ND (1854) MS61 NGC, Paris mint, KM-Unl, VG-3654. Plain edge. Very unusual, this rare mule was produced at the Paris mint with an obverse die of a Napoleon III 5 Francs and then the obverse was apparently silver-plated, as far as this cataloger can tell with the coin being housed in an NGC holder. The strike is excellent as with nearly all Paris mint emissions of this period and the obverse at least is somewhat prooflike, although there is a fair amount of chatter in the fields of both sides. Highly unusual and clearly quite rare.
