Republic 1/2 Bolivar 1879 XF40 PCGS, Brussels mint, KM-Y21. A fairly scarce one-year type in the series struck at Brussels (the remaining dates being struck at other mints), this charming piece exhibits some moderate wear consistent with its use in circulation--a scenario not at all uncommon for the type. In fact, the degree to which these minors circulated makes the present specimen one of the better grades which one can hope to acquire. An NGC AU55 realized a hammer of $5,800 in our 2015 NY auction (sale 3037, lot 30841).
