Temperance Pledge silver Award Medal 1865 (1832) VF, 45mm/52.21g. Obv: Man and woman with flags support shield, bible on top; above, BY THIS WE CONQUER; below, PEACE ON EARTH with rose above. Rev: 13-line inscription, PRESENTED / BY / Mr. Robert Booth / OF SALFORD / TO / Mr. JOHN KING / MARCH 28. 1865. / as a token of esteem and / admiration of his moral courage / being the First man in England / to Sign the Temperance Pledge / AT PRESTON / Aug. 13. 1832.

Engraved in 1865 and presented to John King, who in 1832 became the first man to sign the so-called "teetotal pledge" of the British Temperance League, where he agreed to "abstain from all liquors of an intoxicating quality...except as medicines". Thematically interesting and certainly historic, more information can be found about Mr. King and the movement in general in an archived article dated 1885 that marks his death at 90 years old (www.theguardian.com/theguardian/2014/jan/30/temperance-movement-teetotal-pledge-alcohol).
