Venice. School of Santa Maria della Carità in Venice silver Medal 1767, Voltoline-1584. 33.08gm, 50mm. Obv. Representation of the precious reliquary with inscription "IO BAPTISTAE SCHIOPPALALBA PHILOLOGO." Rev. Cross with two concentric circles, symbol of the School of Charity. Evidence of sharp double-striking. Light silvery-gray patina over full luster, with a bold strike and surfaces showing only a few light hairlines. A Choice example of this rare issue.
The medal is awarded to Abbot Giambattista Schioppalalba, priest of the school "Scuola della Carità". As a scholar of the classical world, the abbot had published a precise description of the reliquary (gift to the school of Cardinal Bessarione) the same year.
