Puerto Rico Banco de Puerto Rico $10 1.7.1909 Pick 48b. A rare note from a bank that was originally granted a charter by Spain under the name of Banco Espanol de Puerto Rico. The armistice after the Spanish-American War signed by the warring powers stated that the United States would need to respect all charters issued by Spain. The bank was allowed to continue with the new name of El Banco de Puerto Rico. Its charter expired in 1913 and the bank was liquidated. The bank's last issue of 1909 was denominated only in dollars. Tonight's example grades PCGS Apparent Fine 15, hole punch cancelled, paper clip rust stains, and damage at top center. The damage is a few small internal holes caused by the rust. We have auctioned only one Pick 48b before. It graded PMG 15 Net and brought $1,762.50 in January 2014. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. HID08701242017
