Buffalo Nickels
1937-D 5C -- Improperly Cleaned -- Three-Legged, FS-901, MS60 NGC Details. UNC. The heavily eroded dies are diagnostic of this important Guide Book variety. The satiny mint luster shows relatively few abrasions, and warm golden toning appears over each side. The shallow front leg of the bison was effaced by die lapping, a practice that was common on five cent dies during the 1920s and '30s but seldom performed to such an extent as to efface design elements.
