Early Half Dollars
1794 50C O-104, T-11, R.5 -- Tooled, Improperly Cleaned -- NCS. VG Details. Tompkins Die State 1/1. Microscopically porous surfaces indicate the past cleaning, and several suspect areas in the fields suggest some overall smoothing. Diagonal adjustment marks remain at the central reverse. Deep olive-gray toning at the margins lightens into silver-gray centers. The date is weak only at the bottoms of the numerals, and the rims are sharp for a VG details coin. Overton-104 is a slightly better variety of the magical 1794 issue, always in-demand regardless of die pair and condition.
