Bust Half Dollars
1813 50C O-107a, R.1, MS63+ NGC. This fully lustrous, high-end Select Mint State example displays splendid ivory surfaces with splashes of gold and iridescent toning. Both the obverse and reverse dies appear to be on the verge of catastrophic failure, with die clashing and strong die cracks that not only encircle parts of the margins, but branch off into the central motifs. Despite it all, the strike is sharp on the obverse. It is less sharp on the reverse at the eagle's head, where the late die stage takes its toll.
