Seated Dollars
1870-CC $1 VG8 NGC. OC-6, R.5. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. While the 1870-CC is the most-available Carson City silver dollar, it is seldom found in VG condition with pleasing, original surfaces. This example is ideal for the assigned grade, with rich gunmetal-gray patina and few marks, although we note a circular flaw above and left of 1 in the date. The most noticeable defect is a Mint-related planchet flaw above star 8, a fitting reminder of the earliest days of the old Nevada Mint, when such production anomalies were common. At least nine die pairs were required to strike just 12,462 pieces.
