1810 1C S-282, B-3, R.2, MS63 Brown NGC. Breen Die State III. This glossy and lustrous Select Mint State coin has much to recommend it in comparison with other fine examples of the Sheldon-282 variety. Evenly dispersed umber-brown toning displays faint olive-gold undertones and a vibrant sheen.
A sharp strike shows only nominal incompleteness on star 8 amid flowlines along the right margin characteristic of the die state. The reverse is struck slightly off-center northeast, with some minor rim disturbance where the tops of ATES run up against the edge. Scattered light marks and strike-throughs require close examination with a lens to view. Few Classic Head cents exceed the eye appeal and surface quality of this outstanding coin regardless of variety. Our EAC grade AU58. Census (all 1810 varieties combined): 2 in 63 Brown, 5 finer (7/17).
