Buffalo Nickels
1927-D 5C MS65+ PCGS. CAC. The strike and natural appeal of this high-end Gem nickel are outstanding. The Bowers reference describes the 1927-D as "poorly detailed to minimally average," yet this coin is remarkably bold for the issue. The worn dies were often widely spaced, contributing to weakness in the centers and die erosion at the borders -- two distractions not seen on this example. The nickel-gray surfaces are satin-smooth, essentially mark-free, and attractive, with a hint of warmth from occasional pale champagne-gold overtones. A Plus-graded Gem with CAC endorsement. Population: 82 in 65 (9 in 65+), 7 finer. CAC: 22 in 65, 1 finer (7/17).
