1898-O 25C MS66 PCGS. The 1898-O is a scarce issue in Mint State, with most such pieces scattered throughout the MS62 to MS65 grade range. Premium Gems are genuinely rare, and finer examples are prohibitively scarce. Our Permanent Auction Archives list only eight previous appearances of an MS66 coin, the last being a PCGS example that realized $11,750 in our 2015 FUN Signature sale. The present example is satiny and vibrant with shades of golden-brown, sea-green, and magenta toning. The design elements are well-detailed, save for the eagle's right (facing) talons and a couple of right-hand stars, and eye appeal is outstanding. A Condition Census example. Population: 9 in 66 (2 in 66+), 2 finer (7/17).
