Early Half Dollars
1794 50C O-101a, T-7, High R.3, VG10 PCGS. Tompkins Die State 1/5. The obverse die remains in its perfect state throughout the comparatively long run of O-101 die pair, while the reverse die advances through five die stages. This example is in the latest state of the reverse, with a biplanar crack through F in OF, and an additional die crack joining the single olive leaf at the right wreath top to the second S in STATES. Pleasing gunmetal gray toning provides a backdrop to the light-gray devices, and this example is strongly defined for the VG10 grade.
