Early Half Dollars
1794 50C O-101a, T-7, High R.3, Fine 12 NGC. Tompkins Die State 1/5. The reverse appears slightly dished, and the strike is quite sharp on the eagle as a result -- at least 10 points sharper than the obverse, which bows outward and is well-worn. NGC chose the middle road in assigning its grade. Struck from a late die state, the coin is attractive overall, although we note a sizeable obverse rim bump at star 14. Traces of golden luster remain.
From The Terry Brand Estate, Part IV.
