Walking Liberty Half Dollars
1921-D 50C MS64+ PCGS. CAC. At only 208,000 pieces, the 1921-D Walking Liberty half dollar mintage is the lowest in the series. The '21-D is the second-scarcest of the three 1921 keys in high grade, and it is genuinely rare above MS64. However, even in MS64 this issue is scarce, and we believe it is scarcer in this grade than the certified population reports suggest. Near-Gems appear at auction only slightly more frequently than MS65 coins. This piece is the first Plus-graded MS64 that we have handled, and it is only the seventh CAC-approved example we have seen in the same grade. Sharp thumb separation on Liberty's branch hand and bold head detail are hallmark attributes, while original mint luster shows a hint of light champagne toning near the borders. A few tiny surface marks are unobtrusive. PCGS lists 37 finer submissions. CAC: 18 in 64, 13 finer (7/17).
