Early Dollars
1795 $1 Draped Bust, Off-Center, B-14, BB-51, R.2, VF30 PCGS. Bowers Die State I. Struck from perfect dies, as always. BB-51 was the Mint's initial use of the Draped Bust design, and the portrait was positioned too far left in the master die -- a situation soon remedied with the BB-52 variety. This example is richly toned in gunmetal-blue, tan-gold, and cream-gray shades. The motifs are especially well-defined for the VF level with only a few minor marks and surprisingly smooth surrounding fields.
