Morgan Dollars
1879-CC $1 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. Most of the Uncirculated 1879-CC Morgan dollars known today came out of the GSA sales of the early 1970s. There were only slightly more than 4,000 coins represented in the GSA disbursements, and today the '79-CC is considered the second most elusive Morgan in the Carson City short set, trailing only the 1889-CC. The present coin is not pedigreed to the GSA hoard, although one might speculate that such was its origin due to the frosty, brilliant luster and lightly marked surfaces. It is Plus-graded, CAC-approved, and especially appealing. The surfaces are brilliant. Although not fully Prooflike, the fields do show appreciable reflectivity. Some trivial strike weakness is seen on the eagle's breast and the hair above Liberty's ear, as usual. Finer examples of the date are scarce.
