Gold Dollars
1849-O G$1 Open Wreath MS64 NGC. Variety 3. Lapped reverse. The first-year cachet of 1849-O gold dollar explains its popularity, and a decent number of coins survive in lower Uncirculated grades for those who demand a Mint State representative. Choice pieces are harder to come by. The obverse is fully struck, while the reverse details are weakened by die lapping. Vibrant luster flows over luminous lemon-gold surfaces. Census: 28 in 64 (3 in 64+), 16 finer (7/17).
