Classic Quarter Eagles
1836 $2 1/2 Script 8 MS63 PCGS. CAC. Head of 1835, Breen-6143, Variety 11, R.2. After the newness of the new design wore off after 1834, relatively few examples of the Classic design -- both quarter eagle and half eagle -- were set aside by the public. This is especially true of coins in Uncirculated grades, which makes this series so challenging in mint condition. This is a bright example that displays softly frosted mint luster. No obvious abrasions are present and the color is even, bright yellow-gold throughout. Population: 37 in 63 (3 in 63+), 15 finer. CAC: 9 in 63, 8 finer (7/17).
