Liberty Half Eagles
1899 $5 MS67 PCGS. CAC. A large mintage of 1.7 million Liberty half eagles was achieved at the Philadelphia Mint in 1899, but few survivors can match the quality and eye appeal of this spectacular Superb Gem. Razor-sharp definition is evident on all design elements, including the hair curls and star centers. The vivid orange-gold surfaces are impeccably preserved, with no mentionable distractions on either side. Vibrant mint luster radiates from both sides and overall visual appeal is terrific. This piece is tied with one other coin for finest certified honors at PCGS, making it a strong Registry Set candidate (7/17). It may be years before a comparable specimen becomes available.
