Proof Liberty Half Eagles
1904 $5 PR64 PCGS. As a proof, the 1904 five dollar is a "common" date (if any date can be called that), with 136 pieces struck. Perhaps half of that number now survive today in all grades. This deeply reflective coin features the typical non-contrasting appearance used in the proofing process between 1902 and 1904. The surfaces are rich reddish-gold with only a few scattered hairlines mostly on the obverse, none of which are especially troubling. Close examination reveals some milky patina in the fields on each side. Scarce and desirable. Population: 12 in 64 (1 in 64+), 2 finer (7/17).
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2005), lot 8672.
