Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1924-D $20 MS64 NGC. The 1924-D, once a great rarity in the series, is now more available thanks to overseas repatriations. However, it remains a moderate rarity, and coins finer than this near-Gem are virtually uncollectible. Aside from the usual weakness around the obverse border (the result of worn or mismatched dies rather than a soft strike), Liberty face and torch hand display strong detail. Rose centers merge with sun-gold peripheral hues and satiny luster throughout. NGC reports 11 finer submissions (8/17).
