Large Cents
1796 1C Reverse of 1794, S-109, B-15, R.3, VG8 PCGS. Our EAC grade: sharpness of Fine 12, net VG8. Breen Die State II. The reverse of this S-109 variety was used with five other 1796 Draped Bust obverse dies to produce six different die marriages. Earlier, this same reverse was used with a 1795-dated obverse to produce the famous 1795 Reeded Edge cents. This is a two-tone cent with dark brown fields and lighter tan devices. There are no imperfections of any serious nature, just the usual random circulation marks expected at this grade level. The reverse is weekly defined in relation to the obverse. The date or type collector would do well to consider this variety. It is relatively common in comparison to other 1796 Draped Bust cents, and the present example has excellent eye appeal.
Ex: Del Bland; Jack H. Robinson; Wes A. Rasmussen (Heritage, 1/2005), lot 3125.
