Liberty Quarter Eagles
1874 $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. Quarter eagle output at the Philadelphia Mint dropped precipitously in 1874 to merely 3,920 pieces -- down from 178,000 coins the year before. PCGS CoinFacts estimates 125 examples survive. This is one of the very few in Mint State, with semireflective orange-gold surfaces and needle-sharp detail on the devices. Small abrasions explain the grade. Population: 10 in 62, 12 finer (7/17).
