Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1855-S $3 XF45 PCGS. This is the first of five S-mint issues in the three dollar gold series, only four of which are collectible. A single 1870-S is part of the Bass Foundation Collection. Just 6,600 1855-S representatives were minted, and all survivors are widely desired no matter their condition. This deep orange-gold example is lightly circulated with blending over the upper portions of the curls and wreath. Still, the design elements remain bold.
