Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1886 $3 AU58 NGC. Always a popular date with collectors with its conspicuously low mintage of 1,000 pieces, the 1886 was not hoarded exclusively in Mint condition but actually entered the channels of commerce and can be found in XF-AU grades. This piece shows very slight friction over the highpoints and the surfaces are a rich orange-gold with an intermixture of pale lilac in the fields. There are no obvious abrasions on either side of this impressive coin. Census: 45 in 58, 47 finer (7/17).
From The Morgan Hill Collection.
