1853 DT$1 Dollar, Judd-154 Restrike, Pollock-183, High R.7 -- Obverse Tooled -- ANACS. PR60 Details. A restrike of the regular dies 1853 Seated dollar. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. These are controversial pieces because there is no known reason for striking a silver dollar in copper. The first piece Saul Teichman was able to trace was in a Haseltine auction in 1876, raising the possibility that these were struck in the late 1860s and early 1870s when James Pollock was Director of the Mint. The tooling referred to seems to be limited to several pinscratches located next to the shin of Liberty. The surfaces are deeply toned in shades of reddish-brown and blue. Moderately reflective.
