So-Called Dollars
1826 MS Erie Canal Completion Silver Medal, HK-1000, MS62 NGC. The Erie Canal Completion medals were struck in white metal and silver, cataloged as HK-1 and HK-1000 respectively. While white metal examples are encountered from time-to-time, silver examples such as the present piece are extremely rare. This is an extremely important opportunity for the advanced medal collector or history enthusiast. The dies were prepared by the celebrated engraver, Charles Cushing Wright. This lovely example exhibits satin luster under lavender and blue toning with sharply delineated design elements.
