Geta. As Caesar, AD 198-209. Æ As (23mm, 5.81 g, 12h). Contemporary Gallic imitation of Rome mint issue of AD 205. Bareheaded and draped bust right / Septimius, Caracalla, and Geta seated right on platform, officer before; citizen standing left at foot of platform. For prototype, cf. RIC IV 126 and BMCRE 834. Fine, dark green and red patina, some smoothing. Rare.

Ex Frank L. Kovacs Collection (Helios 1, 17 April 2008), lot 329.

According to Curtis Clay, this issue is part of a series of Gallic imitations of Roman asses, which are primarily made from Severan prototypes. These imitations are all casts, presumably made from official issues. As such, many of these, even in the British Museum, are incorrectly identified as official Roman issues (see Hunter III p. 74, n. 35).
