National Bank of Egypt, obverse (2) and reverse (2) archival photographs showing final designs for £100, 1921, Citadel in Cairo at left, Mosque at right, value at centre and low left and right, reverses different, one with Philae and felucca at centre, one with Nile barge at centre(Pick 17 for type), The first example is the original design for the 1921 £100. The front is the same as issued, but the back has a different vignette in the centre. This one, showing a barge on the Nile, was replaced with a more evocative one of a small boat sailing past the temple at Philae. The other pair of photos appears to be of a properly printed die proof, rather than a hand produced design. There is no underprint, and the lines are crisp and sharp. It is identical to the note issued in 1921 (4).
Estimate: £600.00 - £800.00
