National Bank of Egypt, obverse (3) and reverse archival photographs showing designs for £5, 1946, black and white, all with King Farouk at centre or right, value at corners, one with Citadel in Cairo at left, the reverse also featuring the Citadel(Pick 25 for the note issued), the first item, a superb quality design, shows King Farouk, the eventually very unpopular ruler of Egypt. He replaced the previous notes in 1946, directly after the Second World War, with a full series of notes bearing his portrait. This £5 is an unknown design which bears little resemblance to the note eventually issued. The second design shows a note much more like the one used, and the final design is almost identical to the issued type, although it does feature a printed English date (4).

Estimate: £1,000.00 - £1,200.00
