REST ORBIS Postumus, in military attire, standing right, holding long scepter with his left hand and extending his right to a turreted female figure (Res Publica?) kneeling to left before him, holding a cornucopiae in her left hand. AGK (corr.) 75. Cunetio -. Elmer 592. RIC 324. Very rare. An excellent example with pleasant toning and attractive surfaces. Extremely fine.
From the collection of Yves Gunzenreiner.
The reverse of this issue hails Postumus as restorer of the world, a rather ironic type in retroperspect: it was less than a year later that the usurper was killed by revolting troops and the 'Gallic Empire' drifted into turmoil.
