GREEK COINS
Ionia. Phokaia. Circa 600-560 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 11 mm, 2.58 g). Female head to left, with a narrow hair band (?), long flowing hair, and an annular earring; behind, seal swimming downwards. Rev. Irregular incuse square. Bodenstedt –. Same dies as Numismatica Ars Classica 92 part 1, 23 May 2016, 216 and 'Prospero', The New York Sale XXVI, 4 January 2012, 520. Very rare. Of very attractive archaic style. Obverse struck slightly off centre, otherwise, extremely fine.
From the Molard Collection, Switzerland.
Coins of this type were unknown to Bodenstedt: including this piece there seem to be four known, all from a single reverse punch linked to two very similar obverses.
