GREEK COINS

Sicily. Akragas. 406 BC. Dilitron (Gold, 9 mm, 1.39 g, 12 h). ΑΚRΑ Eagle with closed wings perching on rock to right, tearing at serpent; on rock, two pellets. Rev. ΣΙΛΑ -ΝΟΣ (partially retrograde) Crab. Dewing 569-571 var. (eagle to left). Gulbenkian 171 var. (eagle to left). Leu 86 (2003), 266 (same dies). Rizzo, pl. III, 8 (same dies). SNG ANS 998-999 var. (eagle to left). Extremely rare, the vast majority of the known gold pieces of Akragas have the eagle to left. Somewhat weakly struck, otherwise, good very fine.
