Kings of Cappadocia. Ariarathes VII Philometor, circa 112/0-100 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 16.19 g, 12 h), 'Mint A' = Eusebeia-Mazaka, 107/6- 104/3. Diademed head of Ariarathes VII to right; filleted border. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ / ΑΡΙΑΡΑΘΟΥ - ΦΙΛΟΜΗΤΟΡΟΣ Athena standing left, holding Nike, who reaches up to crown the royal epithet, in her right hand and resting her left, which also holds a spear, on her shield, leaning against her left leg; in outer left field, monogram over Α; in inner left field, Ο; in inner right field, Λ; all within a laurel wreath. Lorber & Houghton 3-9 (issue 1, A3/P2, same dies). A very sharp, very attractive, and lightly toned example. Minor flatness on the reverse edge, otherwise, extremely fine.
