FRANCE. 1/2 Franc Essai, 1858-A. Henry V the Pretender (1844-83). NGC MS-63.
Maz-925. Struck in silver. Henri of Artois, Count of Chambord, self-styled King of France from 2nd to 9th August 1830 as Henry V. He was the last legitimate descendant in the male line of Louis XV of France (his Great-great-grandfather). Due to his grandfather, Charles X, Henri was a Petit-Fils de France which accorded him the same style and status as if he was the king's heir apparent. Later the Legitimists (the royalist faction) in France who adhere to the traditional dynastic succession of descendants would have him as their pretender to the throne from 1844-1883. Even dove grey tone with lustrous highlights. Sharply struck and a historically interesting piece. NGC MS-63.
Estimate: $500.00- $700.00
