INDIA. Mughal Empire. Mohur, AH 1038 Year 2 (1628/9). Shah Jahan (AH 1037-68 (1628-58)). NGC MS-62.
Fr-787; KM-255.6. Shah Jahan was among the greatest patrons of Islamic architecture, leaving behind many grand structures constructed during his reign. Perhaps the most famous of these, the Taj Mahal, which Shah Jahan built out of love for his wife the empress Momtas Mahal. Located in Agra India, the Taj Mahal is a world heritage site and considered one of the seven wonders of the world. From the Akola hoard, this date was previously unknown until the discovery of a hoard along the river banks near the city of Akola. These are thought to have been sent from the Surat Mint as payment for troops fighting near Golconda. The entire mintage was thought to have been swept away by early monsoon flooding in the area where the carrier stopped to rest for the evening. Good strike with frosty luster and quite attractive. NGC MS-62.

Estimate: $1800.00- $2200.00
