Born in 1649 in Abbiategrasso, Gian Galeazzo Sforza was the son of Galeazzo Maria Sforza, Duke of Milan. He succeeded his father at the age of seven but his mother, Bona of Savoy acted as regent. His uncle, Ludovico Sforza, quickly took power and acted as the legitim Duke of Milan. When Gian Galeazzo Maria Sforza died in 1494, the rumor was that he had been poisoned by his uncle to consolidate his power.
This multiple of two ducats offers a pleasant representation of the young duke as well as the notorious Sforza's coat of arms.
