Rebellion of al-'Abbâs ibn al-Ashraf Ismâ'îl against his brother Yahyâ, 838-840 H./1435-1436 AD Fals no date, al-Mahjam. Within quatrefoil sultân al-yaman / al-'abbâs ibn / abî l-hasan, rev. duriba / bi l-mahjam in a hexagram. 1.58 g.; Extremely rare Very fine

The rebellion of al-'Abbâs is largely passed with silence by the anonymous official court chronicle, edited by 'Abd allâh al-Habashî in 1984. Only under the first day of the year 839 H. he is mentioned as fleeing from Hays in the Southern Tihâma and joining the black slaves of the Tihâma. The later chronicler of Zabîd Ibn ad-Dayba' is more explicit to tell us that the uprising continued until 840 H., when al-'Abbâs came to a peace agreement and settled down in a house with slaves until he died in the same year (Qurrat al-'uyûn II p. 132f).
