Popayan, Colombia, 1/2 real, 1862/48 (anachronistic date), encapsulated ANACS AU 50, ex-Dana Roberts. Restrepo-180.1; KM-133. Muted luster without toning, particularly well-detailed wreath, slightly off-center strike, bold overdate. As explained in Restrepo, the design of this coin is for the Republic of New Granada (which it was in 1848), but the new date of 1862 places it under the United States of Colombia. Pedigreed to the Dana Roberts collection.
