The reverse of this coin commemorates the celebration of the Severan Nymphian Games at Anchialus. Local nymphs had been honoured at Anchialus before with games that, unusually, allowed women to compete as well as men. The games were given the epithet 'Severan' in praise of the emperor's victory over Pescennius Niger in 194.
