1783 SHILNG Chalmers Shilling, Short Worm -- Plugged -- PCGS Genuine. XF Details. Breen-1011, W-1785, High R.4. The silver coins privately issued by Annapolis, Maryland silversmith John Chalmers were produced in a building at the corner of Fleet and Cornhill streets. Apparently, the coins were well-received and circulated extensively. Many are found well-worn, but not this strongly detailed survivor. The design elements remain bold with slight high-point blending. Deep steel-gray patina blankets each side. The faint outline of a plug appears just right of the 3 in the date, but it is not overly offensive.
