Large Cents
1799 1C S-189, B-3, R.2, Good 6 PCGS. Close 99, die chip (or "mintmark") over the T in CENT. The cents of 1799 are among the most challenging and sought-after in the series after those of 1793. Sheldon-189 represents the only Normal Date variety for this year, its fame due in large part to the attention paid to it by noted numismatist Joseph Mickley (his birth year). This well-circulated example shows readable legends and clear motif outlines on each side. Deep brown surfaces display myriad cuts and marks, but the relatively good impression and problem-free nature of this offering more than make up for it. Our EAC grade Good 4.
